Review summary
Based on recent reviews
Powered by AI
Florence House is often praised for its spacious and nicely furnished rooms that blend modern style with the building's character, with the fantastic breakfast featuring a really nice menu often being a highlight for many. Its location is ideal for visiting Southsea and surrounding areas, and it's conveniently close to the beach and within walking distance of the city center. The outdoor bar/restaurant area is a nice touch appreciated by guests, though a few guests have noted the absence of a safe and a fridge in the room. Paying extra for a parking bay at the front is recommended, as street parking can sometimes be tricky.

huge roomwelcome difference
The room felt huge and super clean upon my arrival. It was decorated and furnished meticulously. our evening meal tasted excellent, and breakfast was of similar quality. i found the availability of both indoor and outdoor dining areas quite a welcome difference from standard hotel dining rooms.
I noticed some minor wear on the hallway carpets. Otherwise, everything was pristine.

the room was quite clean upon arrival, something i always appreciate.
i had a rather unpleasant experience with the noise levels. early in the morning, i was disturbed by loud banging noises coming from somewhere nearby. this disruption affected the overall peace i expected , diminishing the quality of my visit.

plasterwork damagemouldy sealant
My room had issues needing attention. I noticed damage to the plasterwork. There were several cracks. I found that the bathroom sealant had black mould. I reported these issues during checkout, but the staff didn't seem very concerned. I expected a better standard of maintenance .

charming find!

spacious roommodern furnituregreat menufriendly staff
The room was spacious and had nice, modern furniture. It matched the building's style. breakfast offered a great menu, there was such a good choice. all of the staff i met were friendly, and always ready to help. i will recommend to pay extra for parking in front. street parking looked challenging.
the room got a bit stuffy in warmer weather, i think there was not a lot of airflow. it wasn't a big deal, but something i noticed.

the hotel has a garden sitting area. this area provides ample seating. the well-kept garden also offers a tranquil escape, and i saw people enjoying drinks and snacks there during the afternoon.
Dining

Breakfast had many options typical for english cuisine. I even saw some i had never heard about. the presentation was superb, and the team served everything in a professional way. i think that the breakfast service made my mornings even better!
